English for Academic Purposes (EAP/IELTS)

 

Course Outline

 

EAP/IELTS classes focus on academic language skills. The course is designed to help you develop the skills you need for being successful in an academic setting. You will be able to increase your listening and speaking competency for academic studies. You will get to practice reading academic topics and completing academic tasks and assignments. The course will help you to be successful in further studies.

After lunch, you can do IELTS practice or you can do an elective . You might want to focus on grammar, vocabulary, writing, listening, reading or speaking skills.

If you want to enter a university programme, this course is ideally suited for you. Castle College provides academic pathways that allow you to meet the English proficiency requirements for further studies.

This course is for students who want to go on to further study at university or in vocational education. In EAP/IELTS you will study 20 hours a week. Classes are focused on academic skills.

EAP/IELTS has two levels.2

Entry Requirements

 

You need to provide evidence that shows you can achieve a 5.0 score in the Academic Module of the IELTS or the equivalent score in TOEIC/TOEFL or a PTE Academic Score of 36 to 41 on the Pearson Test of English. You can also enter directly if you get a high enough score on Castle College’s placement test. You could also study Intensive English until your English is acceptable for entry to the EAP course.
